Budapest, August 7 (MTI) – Foreign tourists spend on average 290 euros while in Hungary and the country’s tourism agency would like this sum to double in the next two or three years, deputy director for tourism development Péter Princzinger said on Sunday. The average length of stay in Hungary is currently two and a half days which the agency would also like to see increase, Princzinger told public news channel M1. He added that he “would not mind” seeing more tourists arrive but it would also be worth considering to focus on quality rather than quantity. Tourists should visit Hungary not only because it is cheap, he said. Currently most visitors arrive from German-speaking countries and the UK and it would also be worth targeting the US, Canada, Brazil and the Far East as well. More news about TOURISM He noted that a nearly 11 billion forint (EUR 35m) programme has been launched to promote tourism opportunities and help businesses in the sector enter the market. The results should become noticeable from mid-2018, he said.
